Ovid Strengthens Academic Coverage on the SilverPlatter Platform with the Release of The International Science Database
Providing Academic Libraries with a Cost Effective Research Tool

New York, NY (September 16, 2004) — Ovid Technologies, an internationally recognized leader of electronic medical, scientific, and social sciences information solutions, today announced the availability of the International Science Database (ISD), published through an exclusive partnership with the Institute for Scientific and Technical Information of the French National Center for Scientific Research (INIST-CNRS). ISD, available on the SilverPlatter online platform, will provide institutions, with a cost-effective way to search a broad range of academic disciplines, including medicine, biology, chemistry, pharmacology, and humanities and social sciences.

"The key strength of the International Science Database lies with its broad international coverage paired with the leading search and linking features of the SilverPlatter platform," said Scott MacFarland, Vice President, Content Product Management at Ovid. "For academic customers requiring research across a wide range of disciplines, ISD represents a highly cost-effective solution."

ISD indexes approximately 8,000 major US and international periodicals, with a focus on European citations, and includes more than nine million records dating from 1990 through the present with an average of 10,000 new records added each week.

"A great multidisciplinary bibliographic database, that could complement specialized international databases and could be acquired at a reasonable price by small and large libraries alike, has been lacking in the marketplace. ISD and the Ovid/SilverPlatter technology fulfil this need," said Raymond Duval, the Director of INIST-CNRS.

Over 80% of the ISD records incorporate bilingual indexing, meaning that keywords can be searched in English or French with full bibliographic citations associated with keywords.

The SilverPlatter product will be a fully integrated and searchable database.
