Ovid Introduces Nursing@Ovid

New Online Nursing & Allied Health Portal Provides a Complete, Integrated Information Source for Nursing Practice, Education, Research, and Administration.

New York, NY (October 8, 2008) – Ovid, part of Wolters Kluwer Health and a global leader in the development and delivery of customizable electronic research information for the medical, scientific and academic markets, today announced the launch of Nursing@Ovid, a sophisticated new online portal offering streamlined access to premium nursing and allied health full-text resources. Nursing@Ovid is built on the architecture of OvidSP, Ovid’s industry-leading precision search and discovery platform.

“Based on extensive market research observing nursing practitioners and information managers, Nursing@Ovid is designed to streamline access to high-quality full-text resources so that users can answer real-world clinical and research questions quickly and simply—whether they’re in the classroom, in the library, at a patient’s bedside, or the nursing work station,” said Karen Abramson, President and CEO of Ovid. “We’re very excited to bring to market this evolution of a ‘vertical’ solution to scholarly literature searching. That means specific interfaces, tools, and content delivery systems built around individual user groups and professional practice areas.”

Ovid has developed a new proprietary controlled vocabulary, along with an associated nursing lexicon, that delivers precision and focus on nursing and allied health terminology to enhance search retrieval for the user. Nursing@Ovid incorporates OvidSP’s underlying architecture and precision search technology, including Natural Language Processing, and many of its flexible search refinement and management workflow tools that enable the integration of a wide range of premium content that is critical to the nursing and allied health communities worldwide.

The new Ovid Universal Search™ technology was built into the Nursing@Ovid solution, extending the power of a user’s search to combine content from non-Ovid platforms and import the search results from content holdings that the user values in his or her nursing research, such as free sites like PubMed and even other subscriptions, such as CINAHL®.

Nursing@Ovid is comprised of the following key components:

  • Ovid Nursing Subject Thesaurus – A proprietary controlled vocabulary that, along with an associated nursing lexicon, focuses on nursing and allied health terminology, specifically around practical diagnostics, conditions, and treatments, to enhance the retrieval from all sources searched within Nursing@Ovid.
  • Ovid Nursing Database - Based on the nursing and allied health sub-set of Ovid MEDLINE®, this data set is enriched with further bibliographical data from Ovid and indexed against the Ovid Nursing Subject Thesaurus.
  • Ovid Universal Search - Ovid’s premium cross-platform solution, also available in OvidSP, which allows users to search and retrieve relevant content from non-Ovid platforms, and import that content into their search results.
  • Premium Full-Text Resources – Highly-cited nursing and allied health journals published by leading publishers, including Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Ovid’s sister company within Wolters Kluwer Health.
  • Access to the Nursing Advisor - A leading synoptic content resource on Clin-eguide, a leading clinical decision support tool from Wolters Kluwer Health, is also available for existing subscribers to Clin-eguide.
  • Nursing-Specific Search Filters – that help users fine tune their search and pinpoint precise information quickly.

All Nursing@Ovid subscribers will receive access to a “core set” of content resources that include the bibliographic database and journal components listed above. They have an opportunity to supplement the core set with additional full-text and bibliographic resources. For more details on the content available in Nursing@Ovid, go to www.ovid.com.

Nursing@Ovid is scheduled to undergo subsequent releases that will feature additional bibliographic and full-text resources, including ebook content, as well as more search and workflow functionality.
