Social Policy and Practice is a bibliographic database with abstracts covering evidence-based social policy, public health, social services, and mental and community health. The database is particularly strong on social care of the young and elderly.

More indexes are available with Social Policy and Practice than on the individual component databases, with a total of 11 indexes available. This gives greater refinement of search and information retrieval.

The majority of the material originates from the UK but there is also European and US material.

Some 50% of the references are to grey literature, including semi-published reports, working papers, local and central government reports, and material from the voluntary sector and charities. The database is oriented towards applied research and practice and as such complements the more theoretically based databases.
