INIST, the Institute for Scientific and Technical Information, produces together with several national and international organizations, several bibliographic databases covering a broad spectrum of areas of Science, Technology, Medicine, Humanities and Social Sciences, which make up the INIST Research Collection: FRANCIS and PASCAL.

The FRANCIS database is a collection of subject files. FRANCIS is produced by INIST in partnership with several national and international organizations. Because of its interdisciplinary nature, FRANCIS is especially useful for finding documents on topics at the interface between several disciplines and seldom covered in specialized databases. With over 3 million bibliographic records from 1972 to the present and abstracts for 80% of the records since 2000, FRANCIS covers the social sciences (Administrative Sciences, Business Management, Economics, Education, Energy Economics, Ethnology, Geography, Public Health, Information Science, Latin America, Computers and Law, Sociology) and the humanities (Archeology, Art History, History of Science, Literature, Linguistics, Philosophy, Prehistory and Protohistory, Psychology, Religion).

PASCAL covers the core scientific literature in Science, Technology and Medicine with special emphasis on European literature. Because of its multidisciplinary coverage, PASCAL is especially useful when searching for documents on a topic at the interface between several disciplines and seldom covered in specialized databases.

Several national and international specialized research organizations contribute to the PASCAL database. With over 17 million records from 1973 to the present, iand author abstracts for 90% of the records since 2000, PASCAL covers Medical, Pharmaceutical and Psychological Sciences; Life Sciences, Biology; Engineering Sciences; Physics and Mathematics; Earth and Space; and Chemical Sciences.
