Whether it is a case of mental anorexia or bulimic conduct with or without vomiting, disorders of the alimentary tracts in adolescence are becoming more and more prevalent. Because of their importance at this age, their multiple medical consequences and their in principle rather uncertain future prognosis, they merit early detection and patient monitoring, in which the front-line participants have an essential role to play.

The difficulties normally encountered do not appear to relate so much to the technical aspect of the diagnosis but rather to its very nature, its numerous paradoxes and perhaps above all the absence of clearly defined steps to take.
- This work is addressed in particular to doctors and nursing staff.
- It gives understanding and practical directives in a fascinating field but one that is often perceived as tricky if not frustrating in current practice.
- Knowing how to be, to act and to work in liaison are here all the more necessary and complementary.
- The third edition, after the success of the previous two, fully revisited and updated, contains several new features. The reader will appreciate the rewriting of differential diagnosis and two new chapters: one on mental anorexia in boys, the other on the alimentrary tract disorder activity and casuistry of the Bicêtre medical service for adolescents.
