Books@Ovid Full Text

Click the cover image or title link of a record.

OvidSP opens the Books@Ovid Full Text Display.

Click a link in the book's table of contents to display the Full Text of that section.

 Close any TOC section by clicking its bar.     
OvidSP displays update indicators:
  • TOC sections
  • Beside chapter titles
  • Within the Full Text display
These icons help you easily locate current material.
When OvidSP displays this icon within the title display, click it, and a publisher page opens from which you can purchase a print copy of the book.

 

OvidSP Session Options Navigate to other parts of your OvidSP session. To browse books, click the Books tab. To search books, click the Search Tab.
Display Settings Show all aspects of the display. Or supress an of the options provided: the title, the search box, or the table of contents.
Search Box Run a basic search through the Full Text of the book or in all books of your site's subscription. For more details, click here.
Table of Contents Click a topic in the TOC, OvidSP displays the section Full Text.
Full Text Display Read the text as it appears in the printed version of the book. In addition, you can output book text. For details, click create a jumpstart to this page.

Working with Book Full Text

OvidSP displays Full Text that corresponds to selections you make from the table of contents. Click a TOC link, and OvidSP refreshes the text in the display.

Click the Back link to navigate between TOC selections and Full Text display.

Books@Ovid Full Text also provides these functionalities when available.

Acronyms:
Hover over double-underlined acronyms to display what they mean.
Glossary terms:
OvidSP double-underlines glossary terms in book Full Text. Click a glossary term link to display a definition in a yellow pop-up box.
Page numbers:
Page numbers correspond to the actual pages in the printed book.
Questions and answers:
Some book chapters include a questions and answers section. Click a View Answer link, and OvidSP displays the answer.

Links in Book Full Text

OvidSP provides reference links so related resources that can expand your understanding of a topic. Reference links can be names or numbers that take you directly to a chapter's reference section at the bottom of the display.

In books with larger chapters, reference sections display in a separate window.

Up arrows return you to your place in the Full Text.

Reference sections can link to Ovid Full Text which opens into the books full text to which your site subscribes.

Book reference links can provide you with these resources, as well.

 Launches an Adobe Acrobat PDF file in a separate window.  Opens a window into the target publisher's website where access to the Full Text of the record resides.
 Launches a video file in a separate window.  Links to your site's Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) of on-site holdings.
 Links to a page where you can order the title through an on-site document delivery service or online vendor.  Links to bibliographic resources related to the record.
 Links to an internet resources page where you can find external, online sources related to the record.  Opens a window for external resource information related to the record.

Site administrators and external publishing providers control the availability of content from non-OvidSP sources. If an external site is not available, contact your site administrator.

Reference links can also take you to websites that contain related content.

Figures, Graphics, and Tables

OvidSP's book Full Text displays figures, graphics, and tables as thumbnail images along with caption text provided by the author.

From this view, details of graphical elements are too small to see. Click the View Figure link to view a full-sized image.

Reference links within the enhanced graphic display are live. Click them, and Ovid takes you to the referenced location within the Full Text display.

Some tables do not display as images, but rather as integrated and searchable text within the chapter or section of the book.

You can print any image from a book in one of two ways.
