Browsing Journals

When your site subscribes to an OvidSP Full Text database, your access includes Full Text articles and books with formatted text and images. OvidSP allows you to carry out the following tasks with images:

Working with Images

Within OvidSP Full Text; figures, graphics, and tables are displayed as thumbnail images located on the right side of the reading pane.

Click a thumbnail image, and OvidSP displays a popup window that contains a larger view of the image along with the caption provided by the author. Beside the image are the current OvidSP image options, namely:

  • View Image Article
  • Download Tiff
  • Email Jumpstart

To go back to the Full Text article page, click on the close link on the pop up window, or press the ESC key.

Image Gallery

The Image Gallery is a collection of all images present in an article. It is located at the end of the article page, below the Reference Section.

To go to the Image Gallery, click on the Image Gallery link on the Outline Box or press the END key.

Printing Images

From the full-sized graphic display, you may invoke your browser's print function. To do so, right-click on the image and follow the browser prompts.

For better output quality, follow these steps from the full-sized image display.
  1. Click the Download Tiff link. An image-viewer opens the image's TIFF file.
  2. Press the Control + P keys on your keyboard. A print dialogue box opens.
  3. Follow the prompts to send the TIFF file to a local printer.

Click the Back button to return to the full-sized image display when the Print dialogue box closes.

Some images—particularly charts and tables with text—appear "fuzzy" or incomplete when printed. The image may be too large to fit on a single HTML page or may lose resolution when printed at full size. To retrieve the highest possible resolution of an image, use the Download TIFF link. Most browsers may be configured to display TIFF images.

External image viewers offer more options when working with images.

  DOS/Windows Macintosh
  LView Pro
ACD Systems
GraphicConverter

Certain TIFF images—particularly color graphics—may display poorly when opened using LViewPro or Graphic Converter. If you encounter this problem, use a professional graphics application such as Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro to view the images.

Current web browser versions may handle image clarity automatically, negating the need for a separate TIFF viewer.
