Browse Books@Ovid

OvidSP lets you browse Books@Ovid for records of interest in addition to searching records.

Click the Books icon from the Main Search Page to begin.

OvidSP opens the browse books page.

Click the Email Jumpstart link and OvidSP opens a form so that you can target a jumpstart to the full book list.

 Click the Hide Book Covers link to suppress the display of book cover images and speed up the load time of your book titles.

The browse books page provides you with dynamic access to Books@Ovid records and the OvidSP Full Text of your site's subscription.

OvidSP Session Options Navigate to other parts of your OvidSP session, create a jumpstart to this page.
Quick Search box Run a basic search through all books in your site's subscription. For details, click here.
Browse by Title Lists books by title. Browse here if you know the name of the book or if you want to browse an alphabetical list of titles. For details, click here.
Browse by Subject Lists books by subject category. Browse here if you know that books you want pertain to a certain subject. Or, create an alphabetically arranged subject matter list. For more details, click here.
Book List navigation Navigate the book list using First, Previous, Next, and Last links.
Record Options OvidSP provides several record-level features. For details, click here.

Quick Searching

OvidSP provides a quick search box with which you can run a natural language search through all books in your site's subscription.

Type your query into the box and click the All Books button to use it.
OvidSP runs the search and displays results in the Search Results Display.

  Click the quick search bar from the browse books page to collapse and expand the search box.

Browsing Books by Title

OvidSP alphabetically arranges all book titles in the initial display by default. Start here If you know the name of the book you want or if you just want to browse an alphabetical list of titles.

Click a link, and OvidSP jumps to titles within the display that begin with a specific letter or number.

Or, navigate the display page by page by using First, Next, Last, and Previous buttons.

Click the Email Jumpstart link and OvidSP opens a form so that you can target the jumpstart to this book list.

If you click a number or letter link for which no titles are available, OvidSP displays the closest matching title and this message.

 Collapse or expand the alphabetical letter links by clicking the browse by title bar.

Browsing Books by Subject

Browsing by subject can be a convenient way to look for books and records of interest. OvidSP arranges books within categories and sub-categories.

Click an Information icon to read about a subject.

Subject notes can help you decide what subjects to browse.

Click a main category, and OvidSP provides you with further sub-categories.

Now browse sub-categories and click a topic.

OvidSP refreshes the titles display to provide an alphabetical list of books from the category selected.

In effect, you have created an alphabetically arranged subject list that you can browse for titles of interest. OvidSP provides First, Next, Last, and Previous links so that you can navigate larger titles displays page by page.

Click the Email Jumpstart link and OvidSP opens a form so that you can target the jumpstart to this book list.

 If your site does not subscribe to titles of a certain subject, OvidSP does not display that subject in the navigation menu. Also, some titles may be assigned to more than one subject.

 Collapse or expand the subject links by clicking the browse by subject bar.

Working with Records in the Display

OvidSP provides basic information for each book record in the display. Links throughout the display help you navigate through the journal names. In addition, each journal record has four helpful elements:

 By default, twenty books display per page. Contact Ovid Customer Support to change this number.

Annotating a Record

Click the note icon of a record.
OvidSP opens an Edit Annotation window.

Purchasing a Printed Copy

Click the Purchase Print Copy link of a record.

OvidSP opens the online form of a trusted vendor from whom you can purchase a printed copy of the title.

Update indicator icons

OvidSP displays update indicators beside the titles of books that have been updated recently. These icons display in the book's Full Text and table of contents to help you more easily locate the current material.

Displaying OvidSP Book Full Text

Click the title link of a record, and OvidSP opens the Book Full Text Display.

 Book content links are customizable and can be set to any subscribed book or web-based resource. Links may appear as a graphical icon or a text link. Contact Ovid Customer Support for full details or to enter your request.

 When you access book content by means of a custom link, OvidSP does not allow you to conduct a search. To resume searching in subscribed content, navigate to the Main Search Page.

Leave Browse Mode

In addition to browsing books in your site's subscription, you can also access the Books@Ovid Main Search Page for a variety of OvidSP search options. Search mode allows you to "change gears" in your Books@Ovid session so that you can:

 To change from browsing books to searching books, click a Main Search Page button located within the browse books interface. Ovid opens the Main Search Page.
