Troubleshooting

OvidSP provides meaningful error messages and troubleshooting options throughout your search session.

Login Failure Notice

OvidSP displays a login failure notice if your login attempt is not successful.

Login failures occur due to one of the following conditions:
  • Caps Lock key maybe locked by mistake.
    User IDs and passwords are case-sensitive.
  • Misspelled user ID or Password.
  • Invalid user ID or Password.
  • OvidSP could not accept your login for the moment.
To remedy, try to login again.
Contact Ovid Customer Support for continuous login errors.

Idle Time Limit

OvidSP sessions have a default time limit known as the idle time limit.

If you do not interact with the OvidSP interface for a certain period of time, OvidSP logs you off automatically, returns to the login page, and displays an error message.

OvidSP's Idle Time limit prevents unnecessary use of an OvidSP user license.


Idle Time Exceeded
OvidSP displays a warning message to notify and remind you of the Idle Time Limit.
OvidSP's default idle time limit is one hour and fifteen minutes. Contact your site administrator to change the idle time limit in your site.

You may recover your last session upon your next login if OvidSP's Session Recovery has been enabled in your site.

Session Recovery

If your search session times out, you may want to recover your work. With Ovid's Session Recovery enabled, Ovid opens a Session Recovery Page when you log in.

From this page, you may access the session you were previously working on or start a new session.

Contact your site administrator if you would like session recovery to be enabled in your site.

Error Messages

OvidSP error messages describe a session problem and suggest an immediate action.

Ovid Knowledge Base

Ovid Customer Support provides a knowledge base resource to answer technical questions. The Ovid Knowledge Base is comprised of questions commonly submitted to our support team from across the world. To access the knowledge base, click the Knowledge Base link.

 

OvidSP opens the knowledge base on a separate window.

 

You may find answers to your questions by searching or browsing through the knowledge base.
The Knowledge Base link displays by default. If you do not want this icon to display, contact Ovid Customer Support at support@ovid.com.

OvidSP Help System

The OvidSP Help System provides quick-reference information about the features and functions of OvidSP. To access OvidSP Help, click any Help link.

OvidSP opens the help system in a separate window.

OvidSP's help system is context-sensitive; the topics you display correspond to the OvidSP interface where you click the Help icon.

OvidSP Help System: Advanced Ovid Search Context

Displays the name of the topic you are viewing.
Provides tools in using the help system.
  • Font size selection: display topic text at a size comfortable for your viewing.
  • Print function: print the topic you are viewing.
  • Return to searching: close the help window and return to your OvidSP session.
  • Links to other topics in the help system.
    Links to sections within the topic you are viewing.
