OvidSP allows changes to searches you saved previously.
| Click on the View Saved button or you may go to the Saved Searches/Alerts tab directly to display Saved Alerts and Searches page From the Search History tab. |
![]() |
OvidSP provides several options to use with your saved searches from this page.
OvidSP lets you select a saved search from your list and:
|
|||||||||||
OvidSP lets you perform these functions with saved searches.
| |||||||||||
| OvidSP lets you choose how you want to rerun AutoAlerts. See Run an AutoAlert for details |
| Select the box of the search you want to run and click the Run button to run a saved search from the Saved Searches Page.
OvidSP opens an interim status page. |
![]() |
| OvidSP's save-search functionality preserves search strategies. When you rerun a saved search, OvidSP searches through the database(s) of the session from which you request the rerun of the search, not the database(s) in which the search was saved. | |
| Rerunning a saved multifile AutoAlert is different. When you rerun a saved multifile AutoAlert, OvidSP searches through the databases from which the AutoAlert was saved, not the database(s) in which you requested the rerun of the AutoAlert. For further details, see the multifile details in Run an AutoAlert. |
| Select the check box of the search you want to remove and click the Delete button to remove a saved search. | ![]() |
OvidSP prompts you to confirm that you want to remove the saved search. Click the Delete button, and OvidSP completes your request and reloads the Saved Searches Page.
| Only a site administrator can delete shared or an expert searches. |
| Select the check box of the search you want to copy and click the Copy button to create a copy of a previously saved search. OvidSP refreshes the Saved Searches Page and lists the copied search beneath the original. | ![]() |
Edit the copy to best serve your purpose.
| Keep in mind that OvidSP's saved searches functionality preserves only the strategy not the selection of databases in which the search was developed. Likewise, copying a saved search copies only the strategy not the selection of databases.
When you make a copy of an AutoAlert, history entries from the original alert do not copy over to the history of the copy. However, in the history of the copy, OvidSP displays the name of the original AutoAlert. | |
| Use OvidSP's copy functionality to develop several searches based upon a single strategy. |
Copying an Expert Search
Only your site administrator can rename or edit an expert search. But you can make a copy of an expert search, then treat the copied search like any other saved search: run it, rename it, edit it, display it for printout, email a jumpstart to it, and so on.
| Expert Searches can be run in any OvidSP database. However, you gain best results when you use the search strategy in the database(s) for which it was intended. | |
| When creating expert searches, include a reference to the database name (as in: expert_medf) in the name or comment field. | |
| To enable expert searches in your OvidSP account, contact your site administrator. |
| Click the Rename icon to change the name a saved search. OvidSP refreshes and redisplays the existing search name in an active text box. | ![]() |
Type the new search name. Do not use leading spaces, trailing spaces, or invalid characters. Then click the Save icon. OvidSP saves the new search name, refreshes the Saved Searches Page, and displays a confirmation message. The renamed search displays alphabetically within its search type panel.
| Cancels the action of renaming the saved search. | |
| Do not rename a saved search with a name already in use by another search of the same type.
|
OvidSP's renaming functionality is only available for saved searches that can be edited. If you are logged in to OvidSP through a Personal Account, shared searches cannot be renamed.
| Click its Edit icon to edit a saved search. | ![]() |
OvidSP opens the Edit Current Search Page.
For each statement of the search, OvidSP displays three options.
| ![]() |
Insert a New Statement
| Click the Insert icon of a statement, and OvidSP opens an active text box.
Type the change you want to apply, then click the Submit button. |
![]() |
OvidSP refreshes the panel with the new statement in place.
Edit an Existing Statement
| Click the Edit icon of a statement, and OvidSP opens an active text box with the existing statement in it. Type the change you want to apply, then click the Submit button. | ![]() |
|
You can insert statements above or below the current statement by selecting the appropriate command button.
|
OvidSP refreshes the panel with the newly edited statement in place.
| Saved searches that contain natural language statements cannot be edited. OvidSP displays a message in the statement's Edit column Edit not allowed. |
Delete an Existing Statement
Click the Delete icon of a search statement, and OvidSP eliminates the statement immediately.
| OvidSP deletes search statements immediately. No interim page displays, and statements cannot be retrieved. |
When you are done editing a saved search, you have two options to proceed.
- Click the Cancel button to undo changes made on the Edit Current Search Page.
- Click the Save button to finalizes changes made from the Edit Current Search Page.
| Click its Display icon to display a saved search before you run, delete, copy, rename, edit, or email a jumpstart to it. OvidSP opens the search to display all its statements.
Click the Closed Eye icon to collapse the display. |

Email an Ovid Jumpstart to a Saved Search or AutoAlert
Click the Email Jumpstart icon to email an OvidSP Jumpstart to a saved search. OvidSP opens the Email Jumpstart Page.
| Follow these steps: | ![]() |
|
| Type email addresses of recipients. Separate addresses with commas, not spaces. | ||
OPTIONAL: Type your own email address. |
||
| OPTIONAL: Type a new subject. | ||
| OPTIONAL: Add comments. Do not change the URL information or the jumpstart will break. | ||
| Click the Send Email button. | ||
OvidSP displays a confirmation message and sends the jumpstart.
| When you email an OvidSP Jumpstart to a saved search, the URL sent opens an OvidSP session within the database(s) from which you made the request.
AutoAlert jumpstarts requests are different. When you email an OvidSP Jumpstart to an AutoAlert, the URL sent opens an OvidSP session in the database(s) from which the AutoAlert was created—not in the database(s) from which you made the request. |
From the Saved Searches Page, you can run an AutoAlert in one of two ways:
- manually (as an override of the set schedule) or
- as a search in the database(s) of your current OvidSP session.
Running an AutoAlert Manually
Overriding the scheduled run of an AutoAlert:
|
Select the box of the AutoAlert you want to run. | ![]() |
| Select a data set. | ||
| Click the Run button. | ||
| OvidSP provides three data set options:
Since Last Run: Retrieves records added since the last run of the AutoAlert. Run in Current Database: Runs the AutoAlert search strategy in the database of your current session. For this example, we chose to run the AutoAlert in the database of our current session. |
||
| OvidSP runs the AutoAlert's saved search strategy and displays a status page. Click the Main Search Page icon to see results of the run in your search history.
|
![]() |
OvidSP posts new results to your search history when you run an AutoAlert strategy in the database of your current session. You can save an AutoAlert that contains the same searches but that apply to a different database from there.
| You can edit an AutoAlert by clicking its Edit icon from the Saved Searches Page. | ![]() |
OvidSP opens the Edit Current Search Page which, for an AutoAlert, has two sections: Edit search panels (same as other saved searches) and AutoAlert option panels.
|
Change comment text of an AutoAlert. In addition, this part of the edit panel contains a Suspend option. | ![]() |
| Edit existing AutoAlert statements just like any other saved search (for details, see Editing a Saved Search). | ||
| AutoAlert-specific editing options are almost identical to those provided when you first saved the AutoAlert. For examples, review Creating an AutoAlert. | ||
| Shared searches and expert searches cannot be suspended by individual users.
Suspended AutoAlerts may be edited from the Saved Searches Page but cannot be run manually. When you rerun an unsuspended AutoAlert, OvidSP displays all interim results in the search history. |
|
| OvidSP displays a system-suspended message for AutoAlerts that fail over a certain period of time. This occurs when your site no longer subscribes to one or more of the databases in the alert. If this happens, contact your site administrator or OvidSP Customer Support. | |
| In the case of system-suspended AutoAlerts, email updates are withheld until the site subscription is renewed. In the event that you need to reverse a system auto-suspension, contact Ovid Customer Support. |
You can view the events archive of an AutoAlert by clicking its History icon from the Saved Searches Page.

| OvidSP opens the AutoAlert History Page where it keeps a log of actions (event types) for the AutoAlert you selected, including name of the database of origin and a date-and-time log of AutoAlert activities. |
History entries do not carry over to from the original alert to the copy. However, OvidSP does display the name of the original alert in the create event of the copy. |
| Occasionally, Saved Set Results links display in an AutoAlert's history. Clicking this link erases the search history of your current session and switches to the database in which the alert was created. |
