Search Examples

The following examples demonstrate how you might search the AGELINE database. These examples are not exhaustive, but do illustrate several search techniques. It is important to note that, although all examples are given in lowercase, SPIRS is not case-sensitive; whether your search terms are entered in upper- or lower-case, the same records will be retrieved.

Example 1

Suppose you are interested in articles published in 1992 or later that discuss retiree health benefits.

1. Search for retiree health benefits in the Descriptors (DE) field. Include hyphens in the phrase: retiree-health-benefits in de

2. Limit the results in the Publication Year to articles published in or after 1992: and py>= 1992. Beginning the search with and combines the results with the first search.

Example 2

Suppose you want to find information on senior travel discounts.

1. Use the near operator to find records that contain "senior" and "discounts" in the same sentence: senior near discounts

2. Use and to combine the results with a search for "travel": and travel
