The name(s) of all personal authors of the paper appear in the AU field. From the beginning of 1995, for patent records this field also contains the name(s) of inventors. Given names are reduced to initials and the names appear surname first. Names must be searched either as bound phrases including the surname, hyphen, and initials; or by truncating the name. Searching the last name alone, without the truncation symbol (*), does not retrieve the name. The easiest way to search is to select the name from the Index.
