VETCD, part of the CAB SPECTRUM series, covers the following:
Animals covered:
-livestock (including cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, donkeys, camels, other camelids);
- poultry (including fowls, ducks, turkeys, quails, game birds);
- pets and companion animals (including cats, dogs, aviary birds, ornamental dish, other small animals);

Subject areas:
- viral, bacterial and prion diseases – all aspects including virology, bacteriology, epidemiology, diagnosis, pathology, control and prevention, and all aspects of animal spongiform encephalopathies such as BSE.
- protozoal infections – all aspects of protozoal diseases including control and biology of intermediate hosts/vectors of wild and domestic animals. Includes some aspects of rumen protozoa, taxonomy, morphology, genetics, evolution, life history, and the development and use of antiprotozoal agents.

- mycology – all aspects of diseases of domestic and wild animals, fish and shellfish caused by fungi, filamentous actinomycetes (e.g. Actinomyces, Nocardia, and Dermatophilus) and the achloric alga Prototheca. Includes allergies to fungal spores and poisoning by mycotoxins.
- other diseases – all aspects of other diseases including functional disorders, hereditary diseases, metabolic disorders, nutritional disorders, reproductive disorders, and neoplasms.
- toxicology – includes poisoning by metals, drugs, organic and inorganic compounds, agricultural chemicals (herbicides, insecticides, pesticides), and poisonous plants and cyanobacteria.
- immunology, pharmacology and therapeutics – all aspects of immunology and immunization of animals of economic importance and domestic animals. Veterinary pharmacology includes antibiotics, antiviral agents, antiparasitic agents, hormones, anaesthetics, and anaesthesia and immobilization. Therapeutics includes fluid therapy, acupuncture, homeopathy, and medicinial plants.
- physiology, biochemistry, and anatomy – aspects covered include general physiology of domestic animals such as body temperature regulation, and physiology of body systems including the reproductive system and digestive system, haematology, blood chemistry, biochemistry, anatomy and histology.
- animal welfare and behaviour.
- zootechny, hygiene and food inspection – husbandry of farm and laboratory animals, identification of animals, transport of animals, and vermin control; slaughter, abattoirs, meat and milk hygiene, meat inspection, and food poisoning; veterinary hygiene disinfection, waste disposal and pollution.
- other – radiobiology, radiation contamination, radiography, ultrasound, pregnancy diagnosis, laboratory methods, all aspects of surgery. Veterinary services, jurisprudence, legislation, education, and research institutes.
VETCD includes all relevant records from the CAB ABSTRACTS database, corresponding to selections from a number of abstract journals in the CABI range. Journals, monographs, conferences, books, annual reports, and other sources from more than 130 countries are scanned regularly, producing approximately 30,000 new records per year. Nearly all the records have informative English abstracts prepared by a team of highly skilled scientists and linguists. A specialised thesaurus of index terms has been developed to provide easy access to all records on the database.
