MF Molecular Formula

ba in mf

c6-h5* in mf

This is one of the fields contained within the Substance Identifiers and Basic Chemistry superfield (ZID) which itself is associated with the Substance Identifiers and Basic Chemistry message field (ID).

The chemical or molecular formula represents the elemental composition of a chemical substance in terms of the number and kinds of atoms contained in its structure. Of course, such a formula is not always unique in that it may represent several chemical substances and, therefore, may retrieve more than one record.

For organic compounds the symbols of the elements are listed according to the Hill System, that is, first Carbon, then Hydrogen and then the other elements in alphabetical order. Elements are listed alphabetically for inorganic compounds.

All elements and their counts are separated by hyphens in the formula and are individually searchable. All super- and sub-script characters have been converted to full-size characters.
