SilverPlatter Guides AU Author
peters-e-m in au peters* in au seen hibler in au
The AU field indicates the individual(s) responsible for the intellectual content of the original document. Each author is listed in the following format: last name-first initial-second initial suffix. In records created since 1984, if there are more than 10 authors, the tenth author's name is followed by "et-al." Prior to 1984, all authors were included.
The most efficient way to search for an author's name using the field label is as a hyphenated, "bound" phrase, for example, peters-e-m in au. Use this technique only if you know the exact spelling and format of the name.
If you do not know the exact author name search without hyphens, or use the truncation symbol (*). For example, to search for records of documents authored by E. M. Peters, search for either peters-e* in au or peters in au. Also use this technique when searching for hyphenated last names. For example, to search for records of documents authored by R. Seen-Hibler, search for either seen-hibler* in au or seen hibler in au.
Browsing Author Names As an alternative to searching with the field label, you can browse names and search for them directly from the Browsable Author Index Field-Specific Index. This field-specific index contains only individual and corporate author names available in the database. Results of a search in this index display in the AU or Corporate Author (CA) field.
