The CD field indicates the date, in YYYYMMDD format, the record was indexed completely by the NLM and added to MEDLINE. NLM includes only fully-indexed records in the MEDLINE database. Records without a completion date are considered "in-process" records and are not included in MEDLINE.

Fully-indexed records can be revised after completion, therefore, check the Revision Date (DR) for the date of any revision. If desired, use the Entry Date (DA) or the Update Code (UD) field to search for other date-specific information.

Browsing Completion Dates

As an alternative to searching with the field label, you can browse dates and search for them directly from the Completion Date Field-Specific Index. This field-specific index contains only record completion dates available in the database. Results of a search in this index display in the CD field.
