Each term in the Descriptors (DE) field can have one or more role indicators. The role indicators define the relationship between two descriptors within the same record or between a descriptor and the document. For example, the role indicator "treatment in" more precisely defines the relationship of the descriptor "tolstoi-lev-nikolaevich" to the descriptor "memoir."
