The UD field contains a six-digit code that gives the year of the annual MLA International Bibliography for which the document was indexed and the number of the update period (01 through 10) in that year. You can use the UD field to limit searches to records added recently.

The year used in the UD field is the year of the MLA International Bibliography volume, which may not correspond to the calendar year. Also, the number of update periods will vary.
