The AI field indicates if the record contains an abstract. A "y" in this field identifies a record that includes an abstract.

It is useful to combine a search in the AI field with a search in another field. For example, to find book chapters that include abstracts, conduct the following search:

(book-chapter in dt) and (ai=y). Use parentheses to group long search statements to ensure SPIRS interprets them correctly.

Browsing Abstract Indicators

As an alternative to searching with the field label, you can browse values and search for them directly from the Abstract Indicator Field-Specific Index. This field-specific index contains only values drawn from the AI field, therefore, your search will always yield results. Search results display in the AI field.
