Combining Searches

Beginning a search statement with an operator (and, not, or, with, near, or in) automatically combines that statement with the previous one. For instance, if the search you just completed is bronchitis, searching for and pollution will yield the same results as the search for bronchitis and pollution.

For efficient searching, use the most appropriate operator for your search:

OR

bronchitis or pollution

Retrieves records that contain either "bronchitis," "pollution," or both.

AND

bronchitis and pollution

Retrieves records that contain both "bronchitis" and "pollution."

WITH

bronchitis with pollution

Retrieves records that contain both "bronchitis" and "pollution" in the same field.

NEAR

bronchitis near pollution

Retrieves records that contain both "bronchitis" and "pollution" in the same sentence.

IN

bronchitis in ab

Retrieves records that contain "bronchitis" in the AB (Abstract) field.
