American Theological Library Association (ATLA) Reload News

The American Theological Library Association (ATLA) database has been reloaded.
With the expanded ATLA format, new fields have been added and some fields have
changed. Also, the Classification Code (CC) tool has been added. In addition,
Ovid has made the following changes to the database:
18 New Fields
- The ATLAS Coverage and Exclusions
(CE) field has been added. It contains a textual
description of the holdings of a basic bibliographic unit in the collections.
- The Enumeration/Chronology
(EC) field has been added. It
contains numerical and/or chronological information about the serial
title.
- The Genre/Form Term (FH)
field has been added. It contains terms indicating the
genre, form, and/or physical characteristics of the materials being described.
- The Frequency (FR)
field has been added. It contains the current publication
frequency for the journal.
- The Issue/Part (IP)
field has been added. It contains the number assigned to
a particular issue of a journal.
- The Link to Preceding Entry
(LP) field has been added. It contains the Accession
Number of the serial described in the Preceding Entry.
- The Link to Succeeding Entry
(LS) field has been added. It contains the Accession
Number of the serial described in the Succeeding Entry.
- The Preceding Entry (PE)
field has been added. It contains information concerning
the immediate predecessor of the target item (chronological relationship).
- The Place of Publication
(PL) field has been added. It contains the place
of publication for Book and Serial records.
- The Publisher (PU)
field has been added. It contains the name of the publisher
for books and serial records.
- The Related Works (RW)
field has been added. It contains references for items
that are related to the item described in the record.
- The Succeeding Entry (SG)
field has been added. It contains information concerning
the immediate successor to the target item (chronological relationship).
- The Number of Subseries
(SN) field has been added. It contains the number
for the subseries of the series to which the book described in this article
belongs.
- The Name of Subseries
(SP) field has been added. It
contains the title for the subseries of the series to which the book described
in this article belongs.
- The Series Volume or Number
(SV) field has been added. It
contains the volume or number of the book in the series that is described
in the record.
- The URL (UR)
field has been added. It contains the information needed
to locate and access an electronic resource.
- The Variant Title (VT)
field has been added. It consists of a form of the title
appearing on different parts of an item or a portion of the title proper,
or an alternative form of the title when the form differs significantly from
the title.
- The With (WN) field
has been added. It is used when more than one bibliographic
work (book, short story, etc.) is contained in a physical item at the time
of publishing, release issue, or execution and the works have distinctive
titles but lack a collective title.
11 Changed Fields/Indexes
- The Accession Number (AN) field format has changed. The AN
format used to be ario19590000010051. The new format is ATLA0000021898.
- The AUTHOR (AU) field is now an index of all author information
(Author, Conference Name, and Reviewed Book Author).
- The Heading Word (HW) now includes Obituaries and has been
updated for subfields.
- The Note (NT) field now contains the former publication frequency,
bibliography, language note, issuing body note, the linking complexity entry
note and other local notes.
- The Personal/Corporate/Conference Name Subject (PS) field
has changed to include Corporate Name as Subject (CS), PS, and Meeting Name
as Subject (MS).
- The Publication Type (PT)field is no longer based on a code
but is text. It can still be used as a limit.
- The Subject Heading (SH) field was SU. It is also an index.
- The Title (TI) change now includes variant titles (displayed
in the VT field) and titles bound within the same item (displayed in the WN
field).
- The Title Phrase (TP) index has only the title proper information
indexed and does not include variant titles or title bound within the same
term.
- The Uniform Title (UA field is part of the SH field. UT is
an alias.
- The Update Code (UP) has been updated to only include the
first six digits, MMMMYY, for example 199712.up.
