CC Classification Code [Word Indexed]
"4245".cc.
special populations.cc.

The Classification Code (CC) field contains a phrase and a 4-digit code that represent the general focus of the article.

Citations prior to 1994 are from Social Work Research and Abstracts Journal; citations after 1994 are from the Social Work Abstracts journal. Due to a change in the journals used for this database, there may be two codes for the same phrase. In order to make a distinction between pre-1994 articles and post-1994 articles, different classification codes were assigned. In many cases, such as with "special populations," two codes (4245 and 4340) refer to the same phrase.

All codes and phrases used in the Classification Code (CC) field are listed below. Note that some groups of codes (the 1300, 2300, 3300, and 4300 groups) are valid only for records dating from 1994. Some of these code phrases are duplicates; for most effective searching, use both codes.

Abstract
This article presents the challenges facing 41 youths living
in a distressed urban area, and their adaptations to those
challenges. Scholarship in the areas of community building,
youth civic engagement, and employment helped to develop the
theoretical outline for this project. Through the use of
focus groups, adolescents of color, ages 14-18, were asked a
series of open-ended questions about what youths need in
order to be economically and socially involved in their
neighborhood. Responses indicated a need for practitioners
to incorporate protective factors in the community environment,
and nonkin adults in intervention plans and programs. In
addition, the evolving innovative partnership between a
newly formed community development corporation and the
neighborhood youths that emerged from this process is
  discussed. (Journal abstract)
