OvidSP Communication Update

Reminder – OvidSP Enhancements Scheduled for March 31st

Dear Ovid customer:

There are less than two weeks to go until important new platform enhancements—first introduced to you in our email of February 13th—will be added to OvidSP. All of the enhancements will be made live on March 31, 2008 at 11:00 am Eastern Daylight Time (15:00 GMT). Click here for a World Time Zone converter to check the time for your local area. If you or one of your users is in an OvidSP session at that time, your session will continue uninterrupted until you log out or your session times out.

Below are more details on the enhancements—many of which were based on customer feedback—that you and your customers will see on March 31st.

MARC Records
Now you can download MARC records for any journal or book that you subscribe to for your OPAC. From the Browse Books or Browse Journals page, select “Download MARC Records”.

MARC Records

This will take you to the MARC records download page, where you can:

  • Download MARC records one at a time or several at a time by simply selecting the desired MARC record(s) using the associated check box and selecting the “Download Selected MARC Records” link
  • Download all MARC records for the books and journals that your institution subscribes to by selecting the “Select All” button
  • Download by date of update—search for newly updated or loaded MARC records and specify a date
  • View any MARC record in its raw format by simply clicking on the individual title

Annotation Export
Users can now export search results annotations to any standard bibliographic citation manager, such as EndNote® or RefWorks®, saving them valuable time organizing their research.

Search Screen Position
After a Search has been executed, the search screen will no longer “jump”, causing the search results set to appear at the top of the page. The search box will now appear above the search results set.

Results Manager Enhancements
To better accommodate the user’s worfklow, the “Actions” portion of the results manager will appear at the bottom as well as at the top of the Results Manager. Now, users will no longer have to scroll up to the actions box to select preferences.

Additional Interface Enhancements

  • The “Remove Duplicates” button will be moved outside the Search History Box
  • Navigational improvements to inline abstracts
  • Improved functionality of RSS AutoAlerts – Users can now choose to subscribe to a feed using Google, My Yahoo!, or Bloglines

Non-English Translations
As we continue to move toward supporting our global customer base, French, German, and Spanish interfaces will be available. View a non-English interface from either the Database Selection page or the Main Search page. For more information on non-English interfaces, please see our email of March 12th.

If you have questions about the upcoming OvidSP enhancements, please contact your Ovid Account Representative or support@ovid.com. Be sure to visit the OvidSP Resource Center for all things OvidSP—including an archive of all of our OvidSP-related email communication.
