OvidSP Release Scheduled for August – Includes Key Enhancements to Browse Journals Area
Dear Ovid Customer:
We’re very excited to announce enhancements to the Browse Journals area of OvidSP scheduled for August (more details on the specific date coming soon)!
As with all OvidSP releases since the initial launch of the platform in 2007, the upcoming enhancements are based directly on feedback and discussions with our customers, and are designed to provide users with more streamlined navigation and usability.
Enhancements will affect 3 specific pages:
- Journal List of all titles your institution subscribes to on OvidSP
You’ll discover navigational elements—such as Browse by Title and Browse by Subject—available as collapsible and movable widgets. New functionality will allow you to add the journal to a new Favorites group. Plus - a new search bar will let you search for a journal with just a single query.
- Table of Contents for a specific journal
Here, too, you’ll find widgets that allow you to, for example, view descriptive information or the journal issue list from a strategically placed navigation area. Other new features include the capability to search all issues, as well as limit your search to the issue you’re currently viewing, and a cleaner display of the journal information and results list.
- Full-text display of a specific journal article
This page has been modified and redesigned to improve readability and ensure consistency across all journal full-text display pages in OvidSP. Among the new features are enhanced tools, ‘back-to-top’ links, and an image gallery (when images are available).
We’re also pleased to inform you that earlier in July we added SNOMED CT, a large clinically oriented vocabulary, to the natural language processing algorithm that drives searching in the Basic Search mode. If you frequently execute clinical search queries, you may have already noticed improved synonym expansion and phrase detection. Ovid continues to evaluate and improve our lexicon to ensure optimum precision searching.
