Upcoming OvidSP Enhancements – More Details on Improved Navigation of the Browse Journals Area

Dear Ovid Customer:

Last week we announced August enhancements to streamline how users navigate throughout the Browse Journals area of OvidSP, as well as how journal full text is displayed (stay tuned for a specific date and time when the enhancements will be deployed).

Please see below for more details on the new features and functionality—specifically, enhancements to the Journals A-Z and Journal Table of Contents pages.

Journals A-Z  Page

  • New Search Bar – This will enable users to search a list of all Ovid journals or journals your institution subscribes to on Ovid. Simply enter a journal title for a Quick Search. The search bar automatically populates the name or title of the journal as you type. You’ll also have the option to search a specific citation using OvidSP’s Find Citation mode.

  • New navigational “widgets” – Four new elements will help you navigate throughout your subscribed journals:

    • Filter by Title - View journals alphabetically by title by selecting the first letter of a journal title. Sub-groupings of titles allow for faster navigation.

    • Filter by Subject – Browse an alphabetical list of journals by subject category. Here, too, sub-groupings are available.

    • Filter by Availability - Browse all journals or only journals that your institution subscribes to.

    • My Favorites - Add frequently viewed journals to a favorites list for quick subsequent navigation.

Located at the left-hand side of your screen, all widgets are collapsible; and you can rearrange according to your preferences.

Journal Table of Contents Page

  • New Search Bar – Search for specific articles of either the issue you’re currently viewing or all issues. A simple keyword search is your default; you can also do an Advanced Search using article title, author, year, volume, issue, and page.

  • New links that provide a “breadcrumb trail” – This helps you navigate more easily to previous pages.

  • New navigational widgets – Similar to the new widgets on the Journals A-Z page, these can be collapsed or rearranged:

    • Journal Information - View details—including title, ISSN, and publisher—about the journal you selected.

    • Issue List – Here you can quickly navigate to specific volumes and/or issues of the selected journal.

Watch your in-box next week for more information about how we’re improving the Journal Full-Text Display page for usability and readability. Stay tuned for preview screenshots! In the meantime, visit the OvidSP Resource Center for everything you need to know about OvidSP, including training classes, screenshots, and more.
