MHSLA's purpose is to promote excellence in health sciences librarianship by providing its membership with opportunities for professional growth, fostering communication between members and their regions, facilitating resource sharing, increasing awareness of new technologies, providing high–quality continuing education, and conducting research in health sciences information services

An annual educational conference and business meeting is held each fall with the regional groups rotating the hosting responsibilities. Mackinac Island's Grand Hotel, the St. Clair Inn, Dearborn Hyatt, Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn, Traverse City's Park Place, Grand Rapids Amway Grand Plaza and East Lansing's Marriott have all served as conference sites. MLA–sponsored CE courses, workshops and nationally–known speakers help provide participants with the most current information in health sciences librarianship.

NAHSL 2012 @ Woodstock: October 28 – 30

NAHSL actively engages in activities that support excellence and leadership in the health sciences field by providing continuing educational opportunities, promoting networking and encouraging cooperative relationships and serving as a link to the Medical Library Association.

"Reading Between The Lines" The focus of the program is on media coverage of health topics; speakers include medical journalists, bloggers, and other authors. They will explore how the message is developed, researched, and sometimes distorted.

Health Science Librarians of Illinois Annual Conference: November 1 – 2

Health Science Librarians of Illinois (HSLI) serves as the primary statewide organization meeting the needs and interests of all information professionals who focus on the area of health and medical science.

Anyone interested in librarianship and learning is welcome to attend. Information professionals working in all types of libraries can benefit from the continuing information sessions offered during the conference.

2012 Charleston Conference: November 7 – 10

Each year hundreds of librarians, vendors, and publishers make a pilgrimage to the Holy City. They are not headed to the Mediterranean, but to the southeast coast of the U S –– to Charleston, SC.

The Charleston Conference is an informal annual gathering of librarians, publishers, electronic resource managers, consultants, and vendors of library materials in Charleston, SC, in November, to discuss issues of importance to them all. It is designed to be a collegial gathering of individuals from different areas who discuss the same issues in a non–threatening, friendly, and highly informal environment. Presidents of companies discuss and debate with library directors, acquisitions librarians, reference librarians, serials librarians, collection development librarians, and many, many others. Begun in 1980, the Charleston Conference has grown from 20 participants in 1980 to over 1,400 in 2011.
