












































The book continues with the same format as the first edition but almost doubles the content. It now describes 20 key IOM reports (though 2009) relevant to nursing. The authors have also expanded the content on clinical implications and general nursing education issues; the five healthcare core competencies that frame the teaching-learning strategies have been expanded with more content and examples. Also new in the second edition is a list of abbreviations and a glossary.
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) reports are at the center of the current restructuring of healthcare systems and the movement toward inter-professional work, and they influence funding from research, education, and health policy agencies and professional organizations.
