Trey Cline, AuD, is currently a clinical audiologist at the University of Kentucky. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky and his doctorate in audiology from the University of Louisville. He is pursuing a PhD in gerontology with clinical interests in diagnostic audiology, including central auditory processing disorders and appropriate rehabilitation techniques.
Jennifer B. Shinn, PhD, is the chief of audiology and endowed chair of otolaryngology at the Department of Otolaryngology, University of Kentucky Medical Center. Her expertise includes neuroaudiology and hearing-health-care disparities.

Given the bottom-up influence of the peripheral auditory system on central auditory processing, a very brief introduction on the sex hormones and the peripheral system is provided, but the majority of the article focuses on the influence of the sex hormones on the central auditory nervous system in terms of what we know, the clinical implications, and future considerations.
