Patients with acquired brain injury are not routinely referred to audiologists, and audiologists are rarely a part of the interprofessional practice team. Working with this population provides an opportunity for our profession to demonstrate our significance in the medical arena and to facilitate the opportunity to enhance communication for those who have had strokes and other types of acquired brain injuries. In addition, when we expand our scope of practice, we can make vital contributions to the quality of life of our patients and their families.
