Objective:
The purpose of this article is to give an outline of the evolution of models of psychodynamic psychotherapy.
Conclusion:
Certain concepts about the nature of the relationship between patient and therapist during psychodynamic psychotherapy are crucial to therapeutic benefit. These are attachment, self object function, and the co-construction of an intersubjectivity. The quality of the everyday therapeutic relationship between patient and psychiatrist similarly depends on these concepts.
