Capillary Control of Blood Flow and Fluid Exchange

These studies suggest that much of the local regulation of blood flow may depend more on the transmural pressure at the capillary than on the state of tonus of the arteriole or on the presence of vasodilator or constrictor materials. Re-evaluation of the phenomena of the peripheral circulation from this point of view may assist in the clarification of many aspects of blood flow and fluid exchange.
