THINKING OUTSIDE THE (TICK) BOX: RESCUING PROFESSIONALISM AND PROFESSIONAL JUDGEMENT

Professionalism is the by-word for this group of papers. What makes a professional person and how do you teach it? Where does the role of the extended nurse stop? We are in an age of blurring of professional boundaries, and the rounded aspects of what people expect from a doctor must be considered. We need to resist the bean-counters where possible, and be mindful of Einstein’s dictum that (and I paraphrase) – those things that can be counted don’t always matter, and those things that matter you can’t always count.
