Education for Primary Care 16(5):p 620, 2005.
My friend Malcolm freely admits that he is a grumpy old man. He is a surgeon in the Black Country, and has a significant teaching commitment. ‘Newly qualified doctors’, he says ‘neither know anything, nor can do anything.’ I thought that he was just being miserable over our regular pint: looking at the South African study, he might be right. This is a wake-up call for the medical schools – you’ve got five years. Work out the competencies and knowledge needed and revise your curricula.
