Dr Jian-Qiang Fan is a Founder of the Pfantastic Medical Research Institute. He received his PhD degree in Agricultural Chemistry from Kyoto University, Japan, and conducted postdoctoral research in glycobiology at the Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD, USA). In 1996, as a research investigator at Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Medical Science, he started the project in the development of chaperone therapy for Fabry disease. He joined Mount Sinai School of Medicine (New York, NY, USA) as a faculty member in 1999. He is the Scientific Founder of Amicus Therapeutics, Inc. (Cranbury, NJ, USA). His research interests include understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms of disorders caused by protein misfolding and unfolded protein response in the endoplasmic reitculum, and the development of targeted therapies for such diseases.
