Solifenacin effective to the core of OAB

Solifenacin succinate [Vesicare] provides a rapid and effective treatment for urgency, the core symptom of overactive bladder (OAB), according to results of the SUNRISE* study presented at the 21st Congress of the European Association of Urology (EAU) [Paris, France; April 2006]. The multinational study was conducted in nearly 1000 patients, and showed that urgency episodes graded 3 or 4 on the Patients Perception of Intensity of Urgency Scale (PPIUS) were significantly reduced in patients treated with solifenacin, compared with placebo recipients. An analysis of the STAR** study demonstrated that, in patients with more severe OAB symptoms at baseline, treatment satisfaction was enhanced by a dosage increase, thereby emphasizing the clinically important benefits of a flexible rather than fixed dosing regimen.
