Rock-forming pyroxene phenocrystals from two andesite localities regarded as remnants of ancient lava flows in the southeastern part of the Tokaj Mountains near Sárospatak town (NE Hungary) were analyzed by micro-PIXE technique. The major element composition data of coexisting clinoand orthopyroxene phenocrystal pairs make it possible to estimate the temperature of these Miocene lava flows by applying various two-pyroxene geothermometer calculation methods. On the basis of the obtained data, a temperature of 930–1000 °C seems to be reliable for both localities. This interval is in good agreement with the published estimations concerning andesite lavas.
