This year is Baby Friendly's 20th anniversary; for those of us who were around at the time it started, that seems totally unreal. However, what the initiative has achieved in that time is formidable — 90% of maternity services and 84% of health visiting services are now accredited or working towards it, and the initiative is forging an increasing presence in universities, neonatal units and children's centres. At their conference in 2012, the BFI introduced a new set of standards giving a more holistic perspective and the aspect of relationship building between mother and baby featured strongly in the following presentations from the latest conference.
