This paper will explore how the renal system changes during pregnancy in order to maintain its homeostatic function, highlighting the importance of the midwife's role in informing and supporting women through these changes (). The anatomy and physiology of the renal system will be discussed, followed by the adaptations to this system during pregnancy and the effect of these on the pregnant woman.
