Background

It is estimated that, in the developed world, 50 per cent of women will be exposed to at least one traumatic event in their lifetime. Traumatic events include sexual abuse, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and domestic violence (Mitchell et al 2012) however this is not an exhaustive list.
