Outpatient medical management of first trimester miscarriage was introduced at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in 2009 after a number of trials found it to be a safe and effective approach.
An audit showed positive results, in terms of both treatment success and patient satisfaction. This approach appears to be more successful than inpatient management.
