Abstract

The purpose of pre-briefing and debriefing in simulation-based education is to establish a psychologically safe learning environment for health professionals. The pre-brief should outline expectations, goals and responsibilities, as well as identifying potential risks and ways to mitigate them. A structured debriefing process allows practice to be discussed, assessed and reflected on so that learning can occur.
