Pregnant adolescents depend on nurses for support, education and health care and have an overall perception that nurses are trustworthy and caring. It's critical that nurses recognize their significant influence on these patients and the importance of establishing effective and therapeutic communication.
This article will assist nurses and other health care professionals as they seek to understand and communicate with pregnant adolescents. It includes a discussion of the relationship between the nurse and the pregnant adolescent, ways to overcome barriers to communication and suggestions to facilitate therapeutic communication.
