A large study conducted in the Canadian province of Ontario has found a significant and consistent pattern of physicians prescribing higher-priced pharmaceuticals according to the patient's income, even in instances where there are lower-cost drugs in the same class with similar efficacy. The findings seem to confirm what many have intuitively suspected - namely, that there exists some degree of selection bias in the way physicians prescribe drugs to certain individuals.
