Research has been done on how the shrinkage rate and microstructure in the Si3N4― Al2O3― Y2O3are dependent on temperature and nitrogen pressure during sintering. The shrinkage rate curves alter as the activator content varies. Additional densification may occur above 1800°C because of diffusion through the increased amount of liquid.
