The clinical descriptions of anorexia nervosa by Richard Morton in 1689 remains remarkably similar to the condition we recognize as anorexia nervosa today. In fact, the medical history of Mary, Queen of Scots, born in 1542, is thought to be compatible with a diagnosis of anorexia nervosa.
