This resource continues to provide the most comprehensive guidance related to the infusion specialty - now with 350 references more than the 2011 edition!
Each standard has undergone an extensive review to ensure each was evidence-based and clinically sound. In addition, by changing the title of the document from Infusion Nursing Standards of Practice to Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice, INS acknowledged the interprofessional aspect of the infusion specialty.
INS is dedicated to exceeding the public's expectations of excellence by setting the standard for infusion care, regardless of who is providing that care.
Each standard provides criteria for action and accountability, and the practice criteria are supported by the latest available research. The strength of the body of evidence is ranked to identify the level of evidence and research that supports each of the practice criteria. Since the 2011 version was developed, there have been significantly more infusion-related research articles published, advances in science, and innovation in technology. In response to these changes, the new edition of the Standards cites 350 more references than the last edition. In addition, practice criteria allow for more detailed explanations for specific patient populations and practice settings.
