James Jerger, PhD, is the Academy founder, former associate professor in the Audiology Program of the School of Communication at Northwestern University, professor of audiology at the Baylor College of Medicine, and former emeritus distinguished scholar-inresidence in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences of The University of Texas at Dallas. He has been a frequent contributor to the literature in audiology. He and his wife Susan Jerger now enjoy retirement in Lake Oswego, Oregon. He can be reached at[email protected].

At the time of publication of “Preferred Method for Clinical Determination of Pure-Tone Thresholds,” I had no inkling of the long-term consequences wrought by the addition of that single word, “preferred,” to the title of the paper.
