Abstract

Objective:

Lithuanian midwives' work environment and psycho-emotional well-being.

Methods:

A cross-sectional study was performed, in which 338 midwives participated. Questionnaires prepared for the research were distributed at the congresses organised by the Lithuania Midwives' Association; part of the questionnaire developed by the researchers of the Work, Health and Emotional Lives of Midwives (WHELM) group was used. Permission to perform biomedical research was obtained from Kaunas Regional Biomedical Research Ethics Committee. Statistical data analysis was performed.

Results:

It was found that midwives who are satisfied with their work environment more often report that they are psycho-emotionally stronger, are less likely to suffer from depression or anxiety symptoms, are more able to manage stressful situations and more often feel recognised in professional activities compared to midwives who are dissatisfied.

Conclusion:

Satisfaction with the work environment is of great importance for the psycho-emotional well-being of midwives.
