Global Safe Motherhood Conference 18-20 October 2007
- Pett, C
MIDIRS Midwifery Digest 17(4):p 588-591, December 2007.
Elizabeth Duff has already written her review of this conference (see p504), but we include here another report, written by a delegate Celia Pett, who attended the conference on MIDIRS' behalf.
Twenty years ago, the first Safe Motherhood conference took place in Nairobi, Kenya, and the global Safe Motherhood Initiative was launched in order to tackle ‘the most striking inequity in public health: half a million women, 99% of them in the developing world, … dying every year in pregnancy and child-birth’ (). Celia Pett, an independent midwife and freelance writer, reports from the follow-up conference held in London in October 2007.
