About the Author
Harriett Twiggs Smalls is an attorney in Greensboro, North Carolina. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. Her main areas of focus are medical malpractice defense, Medicare/Medicaid fraud, survey appeals, and risk management. She is also a certified mediator and continues to practice as a neonatal nurse practitioner on a PRN basis. She is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the National Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the American Society of Health Care Risk Managers. She currently sits on the boards of several organizations, including Bell House (a home for adults with physical disabilities caused mainly by cerebral palsy), the Moses Cone Wesley Long Community Health Foundation, and the Triad March of Dimes. She was recently awarded the Health Care Heroes Award by the Triad Business Journal, High Point Regional Hospital, and Mag Mutual.
